Miami-Based Blackstone Executive Emma Mazzeo Joins Lutheran Services Florida Board

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) has announced the appointment of three new members to its board of directors, including Miami-based Blackstone technology executive Emma Mazzeo, bringing additional expertise in technology, education and nonprofit leadership to the statewide organization.

Mazzeo, Assistant Vice President of Private Equity Technology at Blackstone, joins Dr. Leslie Judd, principal of Clark Advanced Learning Center in Stuart, and Dr. Christopher Card, a former LSF chief operating officer and longtime leader in Florida's child welfare system.

The appointments strengthen the organization's board with professionals whose backgrounds span artificial intelligence, operational strategy, education, social services and organizational leadership.

“Emma, Leslie, and Chris all bring impressive professional backgrounds combined with a distinct passion for the communities and purpose LSF serves,” said LSF Board Chairman Lorenzo Cobiella.

South Florida Technology Executive Brings Private-Sector Expertise

Based in Miami, Mazzeo brings experience in technology, data analytics, artificial intelligence and operational strategy to her new board position.

At Blackstone, one of the world's largest alternative asset management firms, Mazzeo works in private equity technology, bringing experience in the intersection of business operations and emerging technologies. Her appointment introduces additional private-sector technology expertise to an organization serving vulnerable children, families and adults across Florida.

For nonprofits managing complex programs and services, experience in technology and operational efficiency can help inform decisions about organizational growth, resource management and long-term sustainability.

Mazzeo's appointment also reflects the role South Florida's business and technology professionals can play in strengthening the region's nonprofit and community organizations.

New Board Members Bring Education and Child Welfare Leadership

Joining Mazzeo are two established leaders with extensive experience in education and human services.

Dr. Leslie Judd serves as principal of Clark Advanced Learning Center in Stuart, Florida. With a background in education, counseling and student development, Judd brings experience supporting academic achievement, student success and educational leadership.

Her background also includes doctoral research at Florida Atlantic University, further connecting her work to South Florida's education community.

Dr. Christopher Card previously served as chief operating officer of Lutheran Services Florida and has spent more than two decades in leadership roles within Florida's child welfare system.

His experience in social services, nonprofit operations and community-based care provides institutional knowledge and an understanding of the challenges facing organizations serving vulnerable populations.

Together, the three appointments bring complementary perspectives to LSF's board as the organization continues its statewide mission.

A Statewide Organization With Strong South Florida Connections

Founded in 1982, Lutheran Services Florida provides programs supporting vulnerable children, families and adults across the state.

The organization operates more than 65 programs, including early childhood education, behavioral health, family counseling, youth services and community-based support. LSF reports that its programs reach approximately one in 50 Floridians annually.

Its South Florida presence extends across Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

In Palm Beach County, LSF provides Head Start and Early Head Start services, including programs serving families in Belle Glade and surrounding communities.

In Broward County, the organization has a longstanding history of providing youth and family services, including counseling and support programs.

In Miami-Dade County, LSF Miami Bridge provides emergency shelter and support services for young people and families experiencing crisis.

The organization's extensive regional footprint highlights the importance of experienced board leadership in supporting operations, strengthening community partnerships and helping sustain essential services.

Connecting South Florida Leadership With Community Impact

South Florida's expanding business, technology and investment community continues to create opportunities for experienced professionals to contribute beyond their corporate roles.

Mazzeo's appointment illustrates how executives working within the region's global business community can bring their professional expertise to organizations addressing local and statewide challenges.

Alongside Judd's educational leadership and Card's child welfare experience, the new board members will help guide LSF as it continues serving communities throughout Florida.

For Lutheran Services Florida, the appointments represent an opportunity to strengthen governance, expand professional perspectives and deepen connections between business leadership and community service.

For South Florida, they offer another example of how the region's talent is helping shape organizations and initiatives beyond the traditional business landscape.
