Net Gains: Tech Night @ Miami Open Brings South Florida’s Innovation Community Courtside
On March 19, 2026, South Florida’s technology and innovation community traded conference rooms for center court as Studio Solian hosted “Net Gains” Tech Night @ Miami Open, in partnership with presenting sponsor GFiber and supported by a strong coalition of regional community partners.
With more than 275 registered attendees, the evening blended networking, innovation, and world-class tennis into an unforgettable experience, proving that in South Florida, technology and lifestyle go hand in hand.
“Unconventional tech events lower barriers and invite new voices into the conversation. When we support gatherings like 'Net Gains' Tech Night at Miami Open, we’re investing in curiosity, creativity, and inclusion because the strongest tech communities are the ones where everyone feels welcome to participate and contribute,” shared Melissa Alvarez, Success Manager at GFiber.
Where Innovation Meets the Court
The Miami Open itself provided a fitting backdrop. As one of the world’s premier tennis tournaments, recognized as both an ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 event, the competition attracts top-ranked players from around the globe and delivers an atmosphere of international prestige, excitement, and innovation.
But Net Gains was more than a networking event, it was an immersive experience designed to engage attendees in new and memorable ways.
One of the evening’s standout attractions came from HADO USA, whose signature augmented reality dodgeball activation brought futuristic gameplay directly to attendees. Participants could experience firsthand how emerging technologies are reshaping entertainment, sports, and social interaction.
Additional highlights throughout the evening included lite bites and drinks, professional headshots, live tennis matches including the center court sessions which could be viewed right from the private Corner Club, and of course, open networking opportunities that encouraged conversations across industries and sectors. Adding to the excitement of the night was a surprise pop-in from James Blake, tennis star and Director of the Miami Open.
In a lighthearted conversation between James Blake and Nikki Cabus, Blake shared his enthusiasm for the growing Tech Night tradition, noting, “Tech Night brings the business community out to network in a way they might not otherwise have the chance to do. Many of these folks probably have never even seen a tennis match.”
When he heard the group had grown to nearly 300 attendees this year, Blake grinned and joked that next year’s target should be 400. That playful challenge sparked laughter from Cabus and the nearby sales director who immediately upped the ante with an even bolder goal: 500 attendees next year.
These experiences created an environment where professional growth and genuine connection happened naturally proving that when innovation meets the court, networking becomes more dynamic, memorable, and impactful.
A Night That Tested - and Strengthened - the Community
Like many unforgettable nights in tennis, the evening came with a few unexpected twists. Rain delays and highly competitive matches earlier in the day pushed the tournament schedule later than anticipated, causing the Net Gains event to begin much later than originally planned.
Yet what could have slowed momentum instead created something even more meaningful.
As attendees waited through the delays, the concourse outside the lounge quickly transformed into an impromptu networking hub. In a lighthearted moment, Nandish Patel, President of SIM South Florida, reassured Nikki Cabus during a phone call, joking, “Don’t worry—we’ve already started networking down here now that we realize we’re all part of Tech Night. We’ll just do even more networking once we get into the lounge.”
Conversations sparked organically as guests gathered, introduced themselves, and connected while keeping an eye on match updates and weather conditions. What began as a pause in the schedule became an opportunity, one that reflected the resilience and adaptability that define both the tech and startup communities.
By the time doors opened and guests were welcomed into the lounge, the energy in the room was unmistakable. Those who made their way inside weren’t just attendees as they were committed participants who had chosen to stay, wait, and be part of the experience. The result was a palpable sense of excitement and camaraderie that carried throughout the evening.
In many ways, the delay became a defining moment of the night, turning anticipation into connection and reinforcing the idea that meaningful networking often happens in the unexpected moments between planned activities.
From Community to Ecosystem: Building Momentum That Lasts
Net Gains was made possible not only through the leadership of Studio Solian and presenting sponsor Google Fiber, but also through the dedication of a wide network of community partners whose collaboration continues to strengthen South Florida’s growing innovation ecosystem.
From SIM South Florida, Mana Tech, Impactifi, ISACA South Florida, South Florida CTO Club, eMerge Americas, BK Growth Advisory Services, Minerva Tec Group, and the Frynge all support the idea that community-driven innovation is becoming the norm, and networking is shifting toward experiences that are more dynamic, inclusive, and memorable.
The turnout, more than 275 registered attendees, reflected the rising demand for experiences that bring the tech community together in meaningful and engaging ways. But what makes gatherings like Net Gains especially powerful is that they don’t exist in isolation, they contribute to something much larger.
For companies, sponsors, and ecosystem leaders, experiential networking offers a powerful way to meet talent where they are, not just professionally, but socially and culturally. It reflects a broader shift in how relationships are formed and opportunities are discovered.
As South Florida continues to attract startups, global companies, and emerging technologies, the need for authentic human connection becomes even more important. Events like Net Gains aren’t just about attendance numbers - they’re about momentum.

The Tech Night @ Miami Open demonstrated that when technology, community, and culture intersect, powerful momentum follows.
