Lupin to Invest $250 Million in New Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility in Coral Springs

Global pharmaceutical company Lupin Limited announced plans to build a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Coral Springs, Florida, marking a major investment in the U.S.-based drug production and a significant boost to Broward County’s growing life sciences sector.

The project represents a $250 million cumulative investment over five years, including research and development, infrastructure, and capital expenditures. Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to produce more than 25 critical respiratory medicines, including life-saving albuterol inhalers used by children with asthma and service members in the U.S. and overseas.

The expansion is expected to create more than 200 long-term, skilled jobs by 2030, strengthening South Florida’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and pharmaceutical innovation.

Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing and Supply Chain Resilience

The Coral Springs facility will serve as a cornerstone of Lupin’s U.S. manufacturing strategy, anchoring domestic production of essential respiratory therapies while diversifying supply chains to ensure reliable, affordable access to medicines during routine care and periods of high demand.

Lupin has acquired more than five acres of land for the project and plans to develop a 70,000-square-foot facility designed to support advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation. The company operates 15 manufacturing sites and seven research centers worldwide, with products in more than 100 markets, and employs more than 24,000 professionals globally, including a strong U.S. presence focused on respiratory care and complex generics. Its U.S. headquarters and Advanced Inhalation Research Center are located in Florida, making the Coral Springs expansion a natural extension of its long-standing commitment to American patients and the U.S. healthcare system.

“The expansion of Lupin’s footprint in Coral Springs is a core part of our growth strategy,” said Christoph Funke, chief technical operations officer at Lupin. “This new state-of-the-art facility will build on our existing presence in Florida and demonstrates Lupin’s commitment to innovation, quality, and supply chain reliability. We are grateful to Florida’s leadership for their partnership in helping us strengthen America’s medicine security by growing our capacity to produce affordable treatments for patients.”

State and Local Leaders Applaud Investment

The announcement was welcomed by state and regional leaders, who emphasized Florida’s momentum as a life sciences and advanced manufacturing leader.

“On behalf of FloridaCommerce, I’m excited to welcome Lupin’s expansion in Coral Springs and the high-impact investment it brings to our state,” said Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly. “Thanks to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ leadership, Florida has built a strong foundation for growth. Lupin’s investment will strengthen Florida’s position as a leader in life sciences, boost advanced manufacturing capabilities, and enhance medicine security, delivering long-term benefits to both our economy and the health of Floridians.”

Florida is currently ranked second in the nation for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing, supported by strong talent development, research infrastructure, and workforce partnerships.

A Collaborative Regional Effort

In recognition of its investment and job creation plans, Lupin will receive state tax credits and incentives. The project is being supported through collaboration with Florida Commerce and Select Florida, the City of Coral Springs, the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance, the Broward County Commission, and regional workforce and higher education partners.

The Coral Springs facility will anchor U.S. production of critical respiratory therapies, diversify the supply chain, and ensure affordable, reliable access, from routine pediatric care to pandemic-scale demand, further cementing Lupin’s position as a global leader in respiratory care.
