From studying social entrepreneurship in Boca Raton to leading a new AI division at Terminal, Ja’dan Johnson's journey highlights the connections driving South Florida's technology ecosystem.
What began as an entrepreneurial journey through Palm Beach County has reached a significant milestone for Ja’dan Johnson, founder of Miami-based artificial intelligence startup Stationed AI, following the company's acquisition by global engineering talent platform Terminal.
Announced Oct. 22, 2026, the acquisition brings Stationed AI into Terminal's operations and establishes a new division, Terminal AI, focused on helping businesses implement artificial intelligence through engineering, automation and customized solutions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
While the acquisition adds another success story to Miami's technology sector, Johnson's entrepreneurial journey has an earlier chapter in Palm Beach County, where he attended the Watson Institute, which partnered with Lynn University in Boca Raton.
From Palm Beach County to Miami's Tech Ecosystem
Before establishing himself in Miami's technology community, Johnson pursued a bachelor's degree in social entrepreneurship at the Watson Institute from August 2018 to 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The institute focuses on developing entrepreneurs and changemakers who use business and innovation to address real-world challenges. Its partnership with Lynn University brought an entrepreneurship-focused educational model to Boca Raton, offering students opportunities to develop business concepts, strengthen leadership skills and engage with entrepreneurial mentors.
Johnson's educational background would prove relevant to a career combining technology, community building and entrepreneurship.
After relocating to Miami, Johnson founded Miami Hack Week, an initiative that brought together thousands of developers, entrepreneurs, investors and technology enthusiasts. The event helped connect talent and strengthen Miami's reputation as an emerging technology hub.
Johnson later launched Stationed AI to address a growing challenge for businesses: moving beyond AI experimentation to integrating the technology into everyday operations. Rather than simply advising companies on AI strategy, Stationed developed and deployed AI agents, automated workflows and customized solutions designed to address operational needs.
“Our customers know their business, and we know AI,” Johnson said in the acquisition announcement. “The hard part is putting AI into practice, connecting to systems, data, and workflows that actually run a business. We built Stationed AI to do just that. With Terminal, we can bring the AI engineers to businesses that need access to those solutions and talent.”
A Strategic Acquisition Focused on Making AI Accessible
Founded in 2017 by a team including Joe Lonsdale, Jack Abraham and CEO Dylan Serota, Terminal operates a global platform that helps companies recruit and manage software engineering talent across more than 180 countries.
The acquisition expands Terminal's business model beyond talent recruitment by adding Stationed's experience deploying AI solutions directly within organizations.
“Ambition has never been the scarce resource. Capacity has,” Serota said in the acquisition announcement. “The AI industry is pouring billions into transforming the world’s largest enterprises, but millions of businesses are being left behind.”
Serota emphasized that businesses need more than strategic guidance to adopt AI successfully. “They don’t need a consulting firm telling them AI is important. They need engineers who can show up, understand their challenges, and build something that works,” he said.
The new Terminal AI division will primarily serve midmarket businesses that recognize AI's potential but lack the internal expertise or resources to implement it effectively.
Johnson will serve as general manager of Terminal AI, overseeing three primary service areas:
Deploy: Embed engineers within businesses to develop AI agents, automations and integrations.
Hire: Help companies recruit and scale specialized AI engineering teams.
Train: Equip employees with practical AI skills and implementation strategies.
Together, the services aim to help businesses move from identifying potential AI applications to implementing solutions within their existing operations.
Building the Next Chapter in South Florida
Terminal's expansion plans also represent a potential boost for South Florida's technology workforce. Terminal AI has approximately 10 employees, with plans to add another 10 positions as it expands engineering operations in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood.
Johnson will lead those efforts as businesses increasingly shift their attention from experimenting with AI tools to implementing solutions that deliver measurable results, including improved productivity, operational efficiency and cost savings.
For companies without dedicated AI engineering departments, accessing specialized talent remains a significant barrier. Terminal AI seeks to address that challenge by embedding engineers directly into businesses to develop solutions that integrate with existing systems, data and workflows.
For Johnson, the acquisition offers an opportunity to scale Stationed's approach while leveraging Terminal's established infrastructure and international reach.
A South Florida Founder Story With Regional Impact
Johnson's journey from studying social entrepreneurship in Boca Raton to building a Miami technology company acquired by a global engineering platform illustrates how South Florida's entrepreneurial communities contribute to the development of emerging businesses.
His career also highlights the role of community building in entrepreneurship. Through Miami Hack Week, Johnson brought together developers, founders and investors, establishing connections within the technology ecosystem before launching Stationed AI. That combination of entrepreneurial education, community engagement and technology development has helped shape his path from startup founder to general manager of Terminal AI.
For Palm Beach County, his connection to the Watson Institute and Lynn University highlights the region's role in developing entrepreneurial talent whose impact extends beyond county lines. For Miami, Terminal's planned expansion creates opportunities for additional AI engineering jobs and strengthens the city's presence in an increasingly competitive industry.
As Johnson takes on his new leadership role, the next chapter will focus on helping businesses put artificial intelligence to work.
From Boca Raton to Miami and now a leadership role within a global technology company, Johnson's journey reflects the growing connections between South Florida's entrepreneurial talent, emerging technologies and business opportunities.
