JetBlue's Largest-Ever Fort Lauderdale Expansion Signals a New Era for South Florida Connectivity

South Florida just became even more connected.

JetBlue has announced the largest schedule expansion in the airline's history at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), a move that represents far more than additional flights. It is a significant investment in South Florida's future as a global business hub, strengthening the region's ties to major U.S. markets, Latin America, and the Caribbean while creating new opportunities for tourism, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.

Beginning this summer, JetBlue will operate more than 125 daily departures from Fort Lauderdale, expanding to approximately 150 daily flights by the winter travel season. The airline's network will serve more than 55 nonstop destinations, including 14 new routes introduced throughout the year.

The expansion reinforces Fort Lauderdale's growing importance within JetBlue's network and reflects the airline's long-term confidence in South Florida's continued growth.

"Fort Lauderdale has always been part of JetBlue's DNA and a cornerstone of our network," said Joanna Geraghty, Chief Executive Officer of JetBlue.

"We are very excited about this next phase of growth and look forward to delivering great value to the people of South Florida. We're building on our already strong foundation by adding more destinations, creating more connections and giving customers even more reasons to choose JetBlue. As Fort Lauderdale's leading airline, we see an opportunity to continue growing together with this community."

More Than New Flights

The expansion also comes just months after the collapse of Spirit Airlines, a defining moment for South Florida's aviation industry that left thousands of employees displaced and created a significant shift in Fort Lauderdale's airline landscape. The airline's shutdown created both economic challenges and new opportunities for competitors.

JetBlue has emerged as one of the carriers moving quickly to fill that void by expanding service, adding destinations, hiring former Spirit employees, and reinforcing Fort Lauderdale as a cornerstone of its network.

The announcement comes at a time when South Florida continues to attract new residents, corporate headquarters, investors, startups, and international businesses.

As companies increasingly choose the region as a place to expand, convenient air service has become essential infrastructure. Business leaders expect direct access to clients, partners, investors, and talent across the country and around the world.

JetBlue's expanded schedule delivers exactly that.

New nonstop service connects Fort Lauderdale with major business centers including Chicago, Houston, Nashville, Charlotte, Detroit, Baltimore, Cleveland, and San Diego, while expanded international service strengthens South Florida's role as a gateway to Colombia, Puerto Rico, and, pending government approval, Venezuela.

For entrepreneurs, executives, and investors, fewer connections and more nonstop options translate into shorter travel times, greater flexibility, and increased opportunities to do business.

Strengthening South Florida's Innovation Economy

The expansion arrives as South Florida continues to establish itself as one of the country's fastest-growing innovation ecosystems.

The region has experienced tremendous momentum across technology, cybersecurity, financial services, healthcare, logistics, aviation, and artificial intelligence. Organizations throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties are collaborating to attract talent and investment while building stronger connections with innovation hubs nationwide.

Improved air service supports that momentum.

Direct flights make it easier for startup founders to meet with investors, for corporate leaders to recruit talent, for universities to collaborate on research initiatives, and for conferences and industry events to attract national audiences.

In today's economy, connectivity is more than convenience, it is a competitive advantage.

Fort Lauderdale's Growing Role

While Miami International Airport remains one of the world's premier international gateways, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport has steadily evolved into an increasingly attractive option for both business and leisure travelers.

JetBlue's investment further elevates FLL's position by expanding destination choices while increasing competition across key domestic and international routes.

The airline's growing premium Mint service also reflects changing traveler expectations. New Mint flights to San Diego, along with expanded premium service to Los Angeles and San Francisco, provide additional options for business travelers seeking a higher-end experience without departing from South Florida.

"We're very pleased with JetBlue's ongoing expansion at FLL and its renewed commitment to our airport to increase flight options for travelers in this market," FLL CEO & Director of Aviation Mark E. Gale said. "We welcome the eight new routes launching this week and the others on the immediate horizon as we continue to grow our partnership even further."

Fueling Economic Growth

Airports have long served as catalysts for regional economic development.

Additional flights generate more visitors, support local hotels and restaurants, create employment opportunities throughout the aviation ecosystem, and improve access for companies considering relocation or expansion.

Broward County leaders view JetBlue's expansion as an important economic win for the region.

"JetBlue's decision to add several new domestic and international destinations to its FLL route map is great news," said Broward County Mayor Mark Bogen

"We're elated about JetBlue's continued investment in FLL and the potential economic impact of the airline increasing operations even further by the winter season."

The expanded schedule is expected to strengthen South Florida's tourism economy while improving connectivity for businesses, residents, and visitors alike. More nonstop destinations mean easier access for companies looking to invest in Broward County and greater convenience for the entrepreneurs, executives, and skilled professionals who travel to and from the region.

Investing Beyond the Runway

JetBlue's commitment to South Florida extends beyond expanding its route map.

As the airline grows its presence in Fort Lauderdale, it is also investing in the communities that have helped fuel that success. This year, the JetBlue Foundation awarded $130,000 in grants to organizations across South Florida, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, Millennium 6-12 Collegiate Academy, Adrienne Arsht Center Trust, and the Brevard Schools Foundation.

The grants support STEM education, youth development, and workforce initiatives designed to inspire the next generation of innovators while creating pathways to careers in aviation, technology, engineering, and related industries.

"As JetBlue continues to grow in Fort Lauderdale, we're equally focused on investing in the communities that make South Florida such an important part of our network," said Ursula Hurley, Chief Financial Officer of JetBlue and President of the JetBlue Foundation.

"Through the JetBlue Foundation, we're proud to support organizations that expand opportunities for young people and inspire the next generation of aviation professionals. Our growth in South Florida is about creating a lasting impact in the communities where our crewmembers and customers live and work."

For a region that continues to prioritize workforce development and STEM education, these investments help strengthen the talent pipeline while reinforcing the connection between corporate growth and community impact. As South Florida's innovation economy continues to expand, initiatives like these ensure that future opportunities are accessible to the students and young professionals who will help shape the region's next chapter.

Looking Ahead

JetBlue's largest-ever Fort Lauderdale schedule is ultimately about more than aircraft and destinations. It represents confidence in South Florida's trajectory.

As the region continues to grow as a center for innovation, entrepreneurship, international trade, and technology, strong transportation infrastructure will remain a critical component of that success.

Every new nonstop route creates another connection—between businesses, communities, ideas, and opportunities.

For South Florida, those connections continue to position the region as one of the country's most dynamic places to live, work, innovate, and do business.
