SoFloGO: The App Powering South Florida’s Connected Transit Future
For decades, navigating public transportation across South Florida meant juggling multiple apps, fare systems, and schedules. Riders traveling between Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties often faced a fragmented experience and one that discouraged widespread transit adoption. There has been a long-needed solution for a fragmented transit system.
That changed with the launch of the SoFloGO app, a unified digital platform designed to bring together the region’s major transit systems into a single, seamless experience. Developed by the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) in collaboration with regional transit agencies, SoFloGO represents a major step toward a more connected and accessible transportation network.
What the SoFloGO App Does
At its core, SoFloGO is designed to simplify how people move across South Florida. The app integrates major transit systems, including Tri-Rail, Miami-Dade Transit, Broward County Transit, and Palm Tran, into a single platform.
Key features include:
Multimodal trip planning across buses and trains
Real-time tracking of arrivals and departures
Mobile ticketing and fare payment across agencies
Step-by-step navigation and service alerts
Accessibility tools, including screen-reader compatibility and step-free routing
SoFloGO is powered by a combination of public-sector collaboration and private-sector technology. Moovit provides trip-planning, routing, and real-time transit data while Genfare powers the fare payment system.
This is all on top of live data feeds from multiple transit agencies integrated into a single user interface. This blend of infrastructure and technology allows SoFloGO to function as a mobility layer, sitting on top of South Florida’s physical transit systems and making them easier to use.
For the first time, users can plan, pay for, and track an entire journey across county lines without switching apps or payment systems.
Why It Matters for Economic Development
SoFloGO is more than a convenience; it’s a strategic asset for South Florida’s economic growth.
As the region continues to expand in population, tourism, and business activity, mobility becomes a critical factor in economic competitiveness. The ability to move workers, visitors, and residents efficiently across the tri-county region directly impacts:
Workforce accessibility: Easier commutes expand job opportunities across county lines
Tourism mobility: Visitors can navigate the region without renting cars
Business attraction: Companies prioritize regions with modern, connected infrastructure
By removing friction from regional travel, SoFloGO helps position South Florida as a more integrated and business-friendly metropolitan area.
Supporting a Growing Regional Ecosystem
South Florida is increasingly being viewed as a single economic region rather than three separate counties. However, transportation has historically lagged behind this reality.
SoFloGO helps close that gap by enabling cross-county commuting without logistical barriers, making it easier for residents to travel seamlessly between Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. By simplifying access to transit, the platform also encourages greater public transportation adoption, which can help reduce road congestion across the region.
At the same time, it supports future transit expansions, including rail and bus rapid transit, by providing a unified digital layer that makes an increasingly complex system easier to navigate.
The app aligns with broader regional goals of sustainability and accessibility, helping reduce emissions while improving access to transportation for underserved communities.
A Foundation for the Future of Mobility
The launch of SoFloGO is just the beginning. Officials have already indicated potential future enhancements, including expanded integrations and additional mobility options.
More importantly, the app sets the stage for a digitally connected transportation ecosystem and one that can support emerging technologies like smart mobility, integrated ticketing systems, and even AI-driven transit optimization.
SoFloGO represents a shift in how South Florida approaches infrastructure, not just as physical assets like trains and buses, but as a connected, tech-enabled system.
By unifying transit across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, the app helps transform a historically fragmented region into a more cohesive, accessible, and economically competitive market.
In short, SoFloGO isn’t just an app - it’s a blueprint for the future of South Florida mobility.
